Seasonal change brings nostalgia and excitement
Moving into the familiar with a new idea
That our old ideals and values will become reality
Leaving us with a sense of accomplishment

By soaking up the weather and fauna
By listening to birdsong and buzzing bugs
By tuning into this season of change
Our new possibilities are emerging
From cloudy distant combinations
Now coming into focus with vigor and joy

Linger over here while the season changes
Wait for the glorious explosion of color
Fading into blankets of grey and brown
Skies darken later in the morning
Sending time through a slow transition

Observation of the moment in my place
Reveals abundant opportunity and grace
Neighbors harvest the fruits of artful labor
Tables swell with sensory delights to savor
We spend time in harmony and joy
Our community overflows with blessings

Change comes in waves, moves the doors
Opens new thoroughfares into creativity
Leaves no excuse to remain motionless
Brings real urgency to the time remaining

Withdraw the gloomy forecast of disaster
Take another look in a different direction
These projections have become dominant
Increasingly demented versions of reality
Are summoned up from paranoid dreams
To excuse those responsible from blame
The devastation that results is the same

Time takes shape in leaves that sparkle
Limbs reach out to defend themselves
Straight from the soul of natural beauty
Bonsai is the art of pruning to teach

Conditions surround every move
A startling number of circumstances
Remain obscured, plastered over by guilt
Stars do not illuminate a single possibility
Should we invest in this unclear vision
We may discover that the path
Has been washed out by fantastic goals
The never suited a personal purpose
But were adapted from propaganda

Nature’s cycles remind us of our ancestors
The gardens they planted and nurtured
The uncertainty in every season they lived
The harvest is dwindling because of greed
This intense competition for resources
Can’t be what our predecessors wanted

Portland, Oregon is known as the rose city
Much controversy over reputation
Culture and political history overshadow
The constant bloom of creativity
That never stops flowing like the river
