Best understood from a distance
Time slips into forms for continuous improvement
Reduces memory to a string of events
Possessions and other objects
Look faded in the background of now
This moment has what remains of then

The difference between stories and reality
Is a gap that is growing larger and heavier
No full grasp of the time can excuse or exclude
Serious efforts are designed to obstruct truth

Slither to a new level of confidence and stealth
Find vibrations in the air and in the sky
Night creatures find darkened pathways
Through all the dissent of projected fear
To discover another level of calm and quiet

SHAKTI GAWAIN
I’m working on a new level of communication
The reflection of light is a tricky practice
One needs stillness’s steady gaze to know
When to absorb versus when to return
The essence of meaning we recognize as ours

Hot, restless winds blow across the desert
The fruit and flowers of the garden have disappeared
The future hangs heavy on the horizon, void of course
Drought followed by famine and fear have decimated
The crops we have always grown to sustain ourselves
Now we eat cactus to survive, knowing it is a gift
The bright colored blooms delight our hearts and spirits
Promising fruit that will keep the community alive for a while
ChaosIf we are not here to bargain, bully, and descend a long path
What kind of interior purpose can possibly be served by wrath?
Disconnected, left spinning in whirlwinds of violence and grief
This chaotic background story has stolen peace like a thief
Our time is corrupted, our spaces are polluted by flowing greed
Where can we look for the insight and harmony we all need?
Our position has been discovered by the crows
Someone left a shiny piece of aluminum foil
On the ground next to the campfire last night
This morning we are surrounded by the curiosity
Of these black inspectors who went through our packs
Looking for treasures they could stash for later
Finding our party lacking in basic bling they demanded
That we surrender the rest of our food to them
Tormenting us with a screeching cacophony of bird anger
They let us know what a tremendous disappointment
We have been to them by pecking out our eyes
The sky went dark just before the explosion

Step away from the battle, place your weapon on the ground
Look intensely at this serious enemy you think you have found
How does this stranger offend? What makes this human bad?
Your history with prejudice is rooted in a deeper cultural
belief
From which you now must free yourself in order to find some relief
Break with the past and change the scripted outcome before it is too late
Dangerous winds whistled in from the south with news
That change was in the air and revolutions brewed
In the darkness spies crawled into town like snakes
Slithering around the gossiping crowd, those slimy fakes
Gathered intelligence they planned to use in the war
Dust clouds on the horizon brought a shivers and fear
The future loomed so crazy, but there was nowhere
Left for anyone to go but there
Dim lighting in the hallway that leads to the chamber
Where dreams become part of the sequence of life
Sleeping sprits ignite the vapors of memory contained
Within a secret dark closet under the stairway of memory
The crowded shelves of images and words are dusty
Brought into focus only during the deepest slumber
