Triberr Changes Rules, Uproar Ensues

January 13, 2013 , , ,

I have been enjoying meeting and spreading the work of bloggers on the Triberr platform. I went to NYC in September to learn more about it, and have been pleased with all I have gained from my enjoyment of Triberr. Yesterday the stream of blogs started drying up and today we learn that a limit was imposed of a maximum of 6 posts a week for each member. I am not as prolific as many of my tribe mates. I do not advertise or promote anyone’s products on my blog. My thing is simple. I am just shocked that they are going all Netfix with no warning.

I predict there will be an exodus of some kind, and maybe a knock off site. In the meantime it will be the talk of the town, not in a good way. I do not mind paying a small fee, but there is something about changing the rules overnight that causes uproar.  Triberr has some ‘splainin to do.

What do you think?

Well, I have put a lot of work into my preparation to use Triberr effectively e.g., creating separate Twitter accounts and Blogs based on tribes. Clearly, since the tribemates bare all of the work (time and effort) in promoting each others work, the reason must be the massive amount of computer resources necessary to keep pace with the distribution queues. It would seem a more careful consideration of the Triberr strategy is in order. If this is a dollar and cents issue –> seek private investment; if this is a queue issue –> be transparent with the tribes who made this successful, push more content faster.

haha…some splainin is right 🙂

The changes are not going live for a week or two…and based on initial feedback, the number of imported posts will be 14 per week. Plenty for your average blogger.

Thnx for paying attention and writing about us 🙂

Dino,
Nobody loves Triberr more than I do. The conference in Sept. was so fabulous for me that I am willing to work for you forever gratis. I have a partiality for Andres because I used to live in Venezuela and he knows where the good arepas are. I respect your work and will return to loving you deeply…Semper Fi!!! You should all come out to Tucson and do a tribe up here..we give good taco.

Well done, big chief!!

Happy Monday!
The reason we didn’t give any warning was because it was only a test that affected a fraction of the member base. At this point the test is over and shouldn’t be affecting anyone.

I think we did a pretty good job responding to questions in the bonfires: http://triberr.com/bonfires/?cat=3&thread=47204

We adjusted the post limit values to 14 posts a week for free members, 28 for Prime Lite and 49 for Prime members. Everyone who commented on the thread seems good with these values.

We’ll send an email out to the entire member base this week announcing the changes before they go into affect.

Hopefully everyone is happy with the changes at the end of the day. Based on early feedback of the new, adjusted values, we don’t expect a backlash or exodus. We’ll also have an official post on our blog this week in case people missed the email and bonfires.

It was totally amazing that you chose the most vocal and bossy tribe members ( speaking for myself, at least) to test. I personally am happy with 14. Thanks. Saludos a Andres.

I only write one post per day, so even if the limit had stayed at 6, I wouldn’t have minded too terribly. I, for one, appreciate that there is a cap on how many posts will appear in my stream from one person. Several people take advantage of the free services Triberr provides, and I for one am glad to see those people get the smack laid down upon them. Because seriously? Anyone who has more than two posts per day (and I think that’s overly generous) can’t possibly be putting out decent material. Spammers got caught. I don’t see why anyone would have an issue unless they were guilty of… well… spamming.

Spam is actually eaten…and I hear some like it. I do see your point. My own stream has been edited to eliminate the purely commercial or the every move I make diary style posts. I just put the never show this to me again filter on those. We each have a different way of determining how to draw the line. I know from our encounter in NYC that you take both shoes and Triberr seriously…so we are in total alignment. And I am going to start paying…because they deserve to be showered with at least $10 a month.

Thanks for the update, I didn’t even know about the changes. I did notice that there weren’t as many posts but thought it was because everyone was tired after the holidays.

First time I heard of this, and I would agree with Dino and Dan: 14 posts a week should be plenty….thats 2 blog posts per day…..
2nd point: Im kinda liking this ‘sideways’ thing on this blog… very new and different….

I will not do 14 right away, but view it as an incentive to improve my quality and output.

Pamela, it’s not 6, it’s 14. Here is what Dino said:

The Problem
Some tribemates post once a week, others post 5 times a week, and others 5 times a day. This imbalance has led to a few complaints where certain tribemates dominate the Tribal Stream of their fellow members.

The Cause
Most active bloggers probably struggle to write once a day. How then can someone be writing great content multiple times a week? Well, either they are pushing out short, low quality content, or their blog accepts contributions from many guest writers. In the case of the later, it doesn’t seem fair for one tribemate to promote multiple authors, when those multiple authors don’t promote them back. We have a solution…

The Solution
We’re testing a fix that would limit the total number of imports each tribemate is allowed weekly. We’re starting at 14, so a free member you can write on 2 different blogs 7 days a week, or 1 blog twice a day, every day.

Now, we’re also kept in mind that Prime members can add multiple blogs, up to 7 actually, so Prime members can actually import up to 49 posts a week (7 from each blog).

We’ll be testing and potentially adjusting these numbers based on usage data and member feedback.

Yes, I know. The number 14 was reached after some discussion with members.I believe it is generous, which is why I joined Prime Lite, even though I now do not create 14 blogs a week. I can afford to pay for the service and find it worthwhile. I think most people will be able to be happy in one of these categories.
