Shame

August 3, 2013 ,

“Shame is a soul eating emotion” Carl Gustav Jung

Today shame is  often related to compulsive behavior.  It seems also to be the reason for codependent rather than meaningful relationships.   Everyone knows shame in some part of life, so it is a common denominator.  In small doses it is the element that keeps us from enjoying being ourselves.  In larger quantities it is crippling.  It’s a shame so much energy is spent on shame. While it cannot be avoided completely during one’s life it can be kept in check.

What do you think?

The problem with an idealized self is that we always fall short.

The other issue in play, I believe, is us and them. Blaming them is about the transferring. THEY, in reality, don’t exist any more than our ideal self.

How do you keep shame in check? Serious question, because for those who are crippled by it, there doesn’t always seem a way out. And boy, is that a shame!

Good pun as well as a good question. Guilt is a related feeling, which may have been imposed early and often in childhood. The shame on you method of child rearing has crazy consequences. I wish I had a good answer.
