Beans are a form of a seed, which alot of people don’t fully recognize. There are many myths and uses for beans in ancient society. In Scott Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs he cites that in Scotland only the highest-ranking priestesses were allowed to plant or cook the bean.The High Priestesses believed that the Earth Goddess birthed these seeds and regarded them as possessing the life force of the great ancestors, because they came as gifts from the dirt, which they believed all mankind was first conceived. Beans have been used to ward off evil spirits and for good luck.
