“Shame is a soul eating emotion” Carl Gustav Jung
Today shame is often related to compulsive behavior. It seems also to be the reason for codependent rather than meaningful relationships. Everyone knows shame in some part of life, so it is a common denominator. In small doses it is the element that keeps us from enjoying being ourselves. In larger quantities it is crippling. It’s a shame so much energy is spent on shame. While it cannot be avoided completely during one’s life it can be kept in check.
Carl Jung, Leo Swiss shrink and alchemist, invited his patients to record their own visions as he did in his Red Book. He councils patients to record their visions in order to interpret the voice of the soul:
“Think of it in your imagination and try to paint it. Then when these things are in some precious book you can go to the book & turn over the pages & for you it will be your church-your cathedral-the silent places of your spirit where you will find renewal. If anyone tells you that it is morbid or neurotic and you listen to them-then you will
lose your soul-for in that book is your soul. ~Red Book; Page 216.
Today we have digital means of making art which I enjoy as self expression. What Carl is talking about here, however, is hand on paper. He tells the patient to use good paper and art supplies to document all visions. He explains that by drawing the vision the magnetism it contains is neutralized. He suggests that the expression of the detail is an important way to build self understanding. I will continue to enjoy my digital art making, but think it is time to spend more time with hand on paper. I love to draw mandalas and other geometric patterns. I wonder if I begin now if I can produce a Red Book worth saving. Have you started your Red Book?
My 7th great-grandfather was born in Northern Ireland and came to South Carolina with Presbyterians. He first settled in Virginia, then traveled south.
Tradition states that Robert Davis was born in North Ireland, where he was married to Anne Pickens. Some of their children were born in Ireland, and they are said to have come to America about 1735 or a bit earlier. The know facts in America about them from Kegley’S Virginia Frontier records are as follows: Robert Davis first received 400 acres in 1735 in South Garden, among the mountains of the Branches of Hardware River in Virginia. At that time all this territory was in Goochland County, and is located in what became the extreme southern end of Augusta county. The same year he received an additional 400 agres in the same location. This section is actually in the Branches of James and Roanoke Rivers. Kegley shows that in 1746 Robert Davis received a grant of 300 acres on the west side of the Blue Ridge. On Nov. 22, 1746, one James Davis, received a grant of 626 acres part of a larger grant of 8,100 acres on Catawaba river. Kegley shows that in 1748 the Clerk’s fee book in Augusta County,Va. shows that Robert Davis, along with many others, is “not found”. This, says Kegley, is an indication of how restless the pioneers were on the frontier, moving from place to place and the county officials unable, or unwilling to keep up with them. Robert Davis seems to have lived a fairly quiet life while in Augusta as there are relatively few records of him. Hedid not trade lands, but witnessed a good many deeds for other eople showing who his friedds and neighbors were. Most other records of Robert Davis in Augusta are in connection with the settlement of the estate of Robert Crockett. North Carolina list of applications for land grants, show that on 1 October 1751, the following applied for land: Robert Davis-for 600 acres, William Davis-for 300 acres Robert Caldwell-for 600 acres, Andrew Pickens-for 800 acres. North Carolina had a law granting land only to people who came into the colony to live on the land. Applicatons, howerever were received in advance of actual removal. In 1753 Robert Davis made the statement in Augusta county that he planned to leave the colony. It was about this date or the next year at the latest that he arrived in the Waxhaw Section, along with others from the same ara in Augusta County. The land when granted was in the then constituted county of Anson which included most of western North Carolina. Source: THE DAVIS FAMILY ** With Crockett and Pickens connections. ** compiled by E. M. Sharp From research done by Mr. D. L. McWhorter of Bethel, North Carolina, in the Archives of the State of North Carolina, and in Mecklenburg Co. North Carolina. and Researched on the Pickens family by E. M. Sharp of Memphis, Tenn.
He served in the militia with his father-in law and brother:
Early Anson county records show the follow ANSON COUNTY, MILITIA COMPANY: Year 1755. Had 61 officers and men. Among those listed were: Captain – Andrew PickensLieutenant – Robert Ramsey Ensin – John Crockett Sgt. – Thomas Wright, Sgt. – William Geard, Sgt. – William King. Corporal – Alexander Crockett. Recorded as O’ Byrne but more usually as Byrne, this is an Irish surname of great antiquity. Claiming descent from Bran, the king of Leinster, who died in 1052, this great clan originated in County Kildare where they held extensive territory until the Anglo-Norman invasion of Ireland in 1169 – 1170, when they migrated to Wicklow where they occupied the country between Rathdrum and Shillelagh. Their name in Irish is properly O’ Broin, meaning the male descendant of Bron, the raven. The O’ Broins, like their neighbours the O’ Tooles, were particularly noteworthy for their resistance to foreign aggression, and they continued to inaugurate native chiefs up to the end of the 16th Century. The seat of their chiefs was at Ballinacor, County Wicklow, and the territory over which they held sway was known as Crioch Branach. The celebrated “Leabhar Branach” or “Book of the O’ Byrnes” deals with the exploits of the clan in these times. Alderman Alfred Byrne (1882 – 1956), a distinguished recent member of the clan, was ten times Lord Mayor of Dublin. The Byrne coat of arms has the blazon of a red shield charged with a chevron between three silver dexter hands couped at the wrist, the Crest being a mermaid with comb and mirror proper. The first recorded spelling of the family name may be that of Fiacha Mac Hugh O’Byrne, the military leader. This was dated 1544 – 1595, in the Historical Records of Dublin, during the reign of Queen Elizabeth 1st of England, 1558 – 1603.
Patrick O’Byrne (1817 – 1890)
A model exists to measure and quantify your style of love. Known as Color Wheel Model of Love, the theory posits that people with similar love styles form more lasting relationships. All relationships are subject to mixing and morphing of styles; it would be rare to find a single pure style in one person.
The primary styes are:
Secondary styles are:
Mixing the styles creates a full rainbow. Take this quiz if you are curious about your styes. This idea was published by John Lee in his book, The Colors of Love , available on Amazon. It makes sense to me. Do you identify with one or more of these styles?
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune are brutal. If you find yourself in a world you never made looking for ways to avoid reality, you may be heading for the ultimate disappointment, the end of your life. You are heading in that direction with or without your own acknowledgement. One of the important steps to take is facing mortality. Your parents and all our relations have ,or will at some time, die. Typically we never think of ourselves in this group. The dead are like traffic; you consider yourself as separate from the activity even when you are in the middle of it. Of course if you are reading this we think you are alive, but this is not a permanent state. Eventually you will run out of time, no matter how you have spent it. You probably mind your financial accounts. When will you begin to account for your time?
Time and responsibility are needed to create:
I have heard much ado about civility online lately. I agree that there has been a lapse in good manners in the comments and discussions taking place. I participate in many social media platforms happily now. In the past I have connected with people who do not have the slightest interest in me, but would like to add me to the list of recipients of their highly ill-matched sales pitches. It took me some time to figure out how to avoid them in the first place, but I removed the ability they had to communicate with me. I have learned from experience how to detect and eliminate the one way, all selly-sell-sell relationships in the bud. I have also learned by being the recipient how to offend and run off potential business with an obtuse view of how media works for everyone. I was taught by the best to be a Trust Agent, but only after a few years of practice do I grasp what that means. Basically, to be trusted one can not be seen as a selfish ass. To make sure you are not seen as an ass, refrain from all infantile negative activity on-line. Everyone acts stupid with friends and family in person, in context, and frequently at home. Let that be your only venue for assholic behavior. You will get you immediate retribution from those live folks in a fully appropriate karmic way that will not require the attention of the public….no need to tweet us about it….just keep it to yourselves.
I propose that those of you who insist that social media platforms exist to assist you in poisoning the water for everyone form your own social network. Assboook could be a place for meaningless promotion and insincere influence credit. To exchange +A with others will be a form of building and defining influence as an on line jerk. Categories of influence, and groups aligned with these special interests will show Assbook members where to go to find the most meaning:
The only reason to include bacon is that no social media platform could ever expect to be popular without at least a little #bacon.
Meditation can take many forms, but it has been confused with nihilism. Emptiness is a holy state leading to enlightenment. Nothingness is not the same as nothing. Jeff Zlotnik gives a simple demonstration of an easy breath following meditation technique in this video. Calm, peace, and a sense of spaciousness are the results of time spent practicing meditation. Thinking and reacting, compelled to control, we slip farther away from health and well being. Doing nothing without freaking out is a skill to cultivate, no matter which style you choose to practice. Breath is usually a component, but walking, painting, writing poetry, chanting, and archery can be formats for meditative practice as well. Find a form that feels right to your physical and mental constitution, then practice.
The catalyst archetype is rare in human personalities. Intuition plays a key role in the transformative power of this person. Intense scrutiny and focus is the special realm of the human catalyst. Rebels can be catalysts, but there are a few different kinds. The American Heritage Dictionary defines the word:
To modify or increase rate of reaction without being consumed is no small feat. Most folks who go out intentionally to make big change in the world burn out and are consumed in the process. I am not such a person. I am a true catalyst. My view is basically not in line with the views of those who surround me; often it is diametrically opposed. Infiltration is the key to changing anything. The only time I sincerely burned out and quit as an agent of change was when I infiltrated the VA as a volunteer to improve health care for vets. That was just too much for me. My specialty as a catalyst is as a mendacity meter. People lie all the time, and I am very sensitive to the common practice. I am gifted with a very accurate sensor that detects dishonesty of all kinds. This is neither a blessing nor a curse. It is my unique talent that I am somehow obligated to use for the betterment of mankind. We catalysts have a moral obligation to avoid snark because, tempting as it may be, outing people is not usually beneficial to anyone.
People lie for many reasons. I find that usually they fail to tell the truth because they have no knowledge or training in the truth. If brainwashing works, then the victim believes what has been inculcated. As I review my life I clearly notice a strong tendency to spy/rebel/teach, as a cycle. I love infiltration for no reason:I enjoy the feeling of being a foreign object in a strange culture, incognito…I almost never go for status quo ….and I fill my teaching with subversive messages I hope will be released into the students’ brains as a constant reminder to do due diligence and individuate. I have a mission to tell the truth, but in a helpful way. Not everything that is true needs to be said, but when it does I am ready to say it. This blog is my channel to put this gift to the highest and best use. Thanks to all the gentle readers who give me this opportunity.
Most of the colonial British families settling in Barnstable, MA came from London. My 10th great-grandfather arrived in 1639, and is buried there. H probably left England because of religious persecution, the usual. He survived to a very ripe old age in his new country, and his grave can be located today.
James Hamblen, so far as has been ascertained, was the first of the name who settled in America. He came from London and settled in Barnstable, Massachusetts, in the Spring of 1639. Of his earlier life very little has been learned; records exist, however, from which some traces of him are supposed to have been discovered. The name of Hamblen appears frequently in th records of Plymouth Colony. The first mention is “March 1, 1741-2. James Hamblen was propounded for Freeman.”March 15, 1657, James Hamblen served on inquest on the body of a child, Simeon Davis.June 3, 1657, James Hamblen was sick and could not serve on the Grand Enquest. The name of James Hamblen appears in the list of Freemen of Barnstable in 1658.June 7, 1670, James Hamblen served on Grand Enquest; same day he was member of a trial jury.May 29, 1670, James Hamblen, Juni, and James Hamblen Seni, in list of Freeman.March 6, 1671, James Hamblen served on a jury.June 3, 1679, James Hamblen served on a jury in the case betgween Capt. John Williams and Edward Jenkins.July 7, 1681, James Hamblen served on juries.July 6, 1682, James Hamblen summoned to serve on a jury, and served. In the list of Freemen of Barnstable for 1689, among others appear the names of James Hamblen, James Hamblen, Jr., John Hamblen, Eleazar Hamblen.
James Hamblen (1606 – 1690)
From: Geneological and Personal History of the Allegheny Valley, Pennsylvania. By John Woolf Jordan. Lewis Historical Pub. Co., 1913 – 1162 pages:
James Hamlin (Hamblen) was living in London, England, in 1623. He came to New England and settled in Barnstable, Massachusetts, where he was a proprietor. He was admitted a freeman March 1, 1641-1642 and was on the list of those able to bear arms in 1643. He was a town officer. He married Ann.
GENEALOGICAL NOTES OF BARNSTABLE FAMILIES. James Hamlen was admitted a freeman of the Colony, and in 1643 was constable of the town of Barnstable. The usual spelling is Hamblin, but the descendants of James are not uniform. Eleazer, the great-grandfather of Vice President Hamlin, dropped the e as a useless letter, and his descendants have continued to do so. Family of James Hamblen. His son James and daughter Hannah were probably born in England, his other children in Barnstable. James.Hannah. Bartholemew, 11th April, 1642, bap. April 24. John, 26th June, 1644, bap. June 30. Sarah, 7th Nov. 1647, bap. same day. Eleazer, 17th March, 1649-50, bap. same day.Israel, 25th June, 1652, bap. same day. This record shows that Goodman Hamblen was very exact in the performance of what he believed to be a religious duty, that none of his children should die unbaptized.
