Artemis is an independent spirit, choosing solitary activities. She is a hunter who feels at home in the woods and with nature. Her social life is limited, and she remains single. She loves a group women who are her companions, all sworn to chastity. These are the original wild women, happy in the forrest, hunting and living in accord with natural rhythm. The story of Callisto illustrates how seriously Artemis took the privacy and chastity of her followers. Artemis’ own father Zeus seduced Callisto and made her pregnant. When Artemis discovered the pregnancy she changed Callisto into a bear.
Her protective nature makes her the guardian of childbirth and children. She is Apollo’s twin sister. It is said that she was born first, then assisted in the birth of her brother the sun god. Her strength and confidence come from her powers of discernment. Hunters learn the ways of the prey in order to be successful in a hunt. Artemis is physical prowess and natural instinct combined in a strong feminine being. Her positive force is derived from loving herself without reservation. She is not influenced by the opinions of others, and rarely condescends to take part in arguments. She has abilities to discern the motives of those around her. She is happy, free, and physically in tune with nature. Her fitness and poise come from a life of natural exertion. She has enough self confidence to protect, inspire and enlighten others.
To get in touch with Artemis use the herb Artemisia vulgaris. It can be purchased as essential oil, although a good quality oil is hard to find of this herb. Use it very sparingly because the oil is very potent. It needs to be diluted with a carrier oil like jojoba. On full or new moons the Artemis energy is high because she is a moon goddess. Inhaling the scent or using the diluted oil on the temples of the head increases the connection to the magical huntress. Choose a meditation or journaling exercise that invites animals into your imagination. By setting a scene, perhaps a lake, or a shady spot, in your mind’s eye, wait to see the wildlife that comes into the picture. Notice if the animals are healthy or seem stressed. Just observe what they do, how they act, and what you think they desire. By going deeper into these images you will make a connection with the Artemis in you. Follow her instincts. Her refined intuition makes a wonderful guide through the woods of life.
How is your relationship with time? A busy, rattled life may or may not bring satisfaction. One thing it can’t bring is free time. This is a gift you must find for yourself. How can we define free time? Is it doing something that is free of cost? Is it free form, without a preconceived schedule or goal? Is it free from all previous habits and delusional thinking? Clearing the schedule involves being clear about priorities. Find time in your life by observing carefully what happens to your time.
It is time to plant the seeds to be harvested later. Contemplative use of time and seasons brings meaning and depth to daily life. Without perspective we often fall deeply into habitual use of time that is both wasteful and depressing. The spark of new joy can be consciously brought into being by doing things differently on a regular basis. This can be as simple as taking a new path to work, trying a new food, an art gallery, or activity. It is not important to spend money to change the habitual use of time; It is important to notice how much time is invested in unhappy activities. We can distinguish between duties that are unpleasant and bad habits by confronting the inner trickster who will always identify with your shadow instincts. The trickster inhabits the emotional territory enforcing crazy concepts that keep you stuck in emotional sludge. Look for a tendency to make excuses and flake out on your own best intentions. Meditation is the remedy for trickster tendencies, because it clears the mind allowing spacious, free time.
We have a finite amount of time, and once it has been spent in one way, it can never be retrieved or recycled. As the new year approaches, why not take a new look at time and happiness? They are closely related.
If you have a mortgage on your home chances are good that a redefinition of your family’s wealth has swept through your reality. To evaluate risk you might have made the assessment that your home was a good investment. You might have accepted that without question and without comparison to liquid investments. You might have purchased your home during the wild and crazy time when the banks were riding high on the fake valuation they gave your home. You might have thought, like the banks did, that there would never be any reckoning for this obvious inflation of the truth. This harsh reality may feel like a purposeful fraud that was executed on you without your participation. The question to ask is ” Did I convince the bank I could afford this, or did the bank convince me?” It does not matter.
What will make a meaningful difference is learning discernment from this kind of tragic error. The Elephant and Donkey Show is now at the point of considering taxing more heavily citizens of the US who make more than a million bucks a year. I am so all over that if they tax the living daylights out of that group, and actually take their immunity through loophole out of the game. While the world watches America is hosting an epidemic of poverty and lawlessness that make some people believe the anti Christ is the American Dream. Since Viet Nam the US has been sporting bravado rather than ethics. Being the greatest country in the world does not involve more spin and PR than real greatness. It involves adding value and kindness to the world by educating and caring for your own citizens.
